The Universe Has Been Gaming My Dreams Lately.

“If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. — Henry David Thoreau”

The universe has set up its own gaming school and I am a willing participant during altered states.

GAMING -”the playing of games developed to teach something or to help solve a problem.”

Abraham-Hicks says, “Ask. It is Given.” But you have to tune in to find it.

Rhonda Byrne from The Secret says, “In the moment you ask, and believe and know you already have it in the unseen, the entire Universe shifts to bring it into the seen.”

Jim Rohn says, “If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.”

Paul Coelho, author of The Alchemist, shares his thoughts on how to live the life you were meant to live, using his character’s voice:

“In order to arrive you must follow the signs. God inscribed on the world the path that each man must follow. It is just a matter of reading the inscription he wrote for you."

Do you feel as I do, that every day is like a treasure hunt where we are always trying to read the “inscription?”

Steven Johnson

The Universe keeps leaving me clues, bundled in mysterious ways- it might be a phrase, a scene, a voice, or a song. Each one seems to build on or at least confirm I am getting “warmer.”

“Synchronicity is the Universe saying you’re getting warmer.” - Michelle Risi

I must admit, this game is a bit exciting — as all games should be. I look forward to the next clue, the next installment, the next message. Let’s face it, we all want what we want. Yet, most of us don’t know how to get it and we don’t know where to start. I am aware I am receiving inputs — even if I don’t fully understand them. I feel the momentum building.

Why don’t we get what we want?

Some believe there is a cultural mandate deciding the haves and have nots — the 1% and the 99%.

Within the 99%, there are others who subconsciously decide they are not worthy or are afraid of reaching for what they want. So they don’t reach. Their fear stops them dead in their tracks.

Some think it, (whatever it stands for any of us) will never happen for them. So it doesn’t.

I’m from the Put-one-foot-in-front-of-the-other camp. Won’t you join me?

What is the put one foot in front of the other camp? It is when we believe that every single day offers a new opportunity to change our lives and all we have to do is “ advance confidently in the direction of our dreams.”

In one split second we can change our direction to one that brings about all the things we hope for. In each step, we can choose the direction and make one decision after another that supports our wishes. It is in our choosing a direction and taking that first step toward making that it happen — when all our dreams come true. It is holding the belief anything is possible.

So many of us are concerned with what we put into our bodies and we completely ignore, or worse still, are completely oblivious to what we feed our minds.

Sometimes, all we need is a little help.

Most of us here on this page have set up a specific environment that includes our favorite writers and speakers that we turn to for advice or new learning. We probably have a close net of friends who think similarly. This menu probably has a bit of variety. Each probably confirm or uplift each other.

Instead of gossip shows, walking zombies, and violent police sitcoms, I choose to feed my mind with inspirational YouTube's and TED Talks, Podcasts, and e-books to enlighten me. Give me a love story any day. Show me someone who rises through difficult beginnings and overcomes the obstacles.

I am intrigued by individual pieces of information that somehow weave themselves into a fine, interconnected web. If we are what we eat, we must also be what we fill our minds with. If we were born to this earth to accomplish something, being armed with elevated information seems imperative.

When I receive information in my dream state — that is a separate form of feeding my mind — as it also feeds my soul.

Recently, I re-read The Alchemist. I find that certain books embedded with messages on multiple levels require my reading them more than once. The first read-through is to get the gist of the message. The second, is to absorb it and then apply the message.

“Dreams are the language of God,” said the gypsy woman.

My dream state, and the time immediately following waking is exciting for me. Each night, I write down questions in my journal before I sleep. I am full of anticipation wondering what breadcrumbs will line my path in the morning. If I have enough sleep they will come in dream form, If I don’t, I will get messages from songs’s lyrics.

Recently, I have chosen to game the universe by take the first song I hear and listen deeply to the lyrics expecting an aha moment. It thrills me when I am able to access that altered place where Paul Coelho suggests, God speaks.

In dreams, I’ve been receiving phrases:

“Pay attention to the physical symptoms your body is giving you.” “Pay attention to your feelings.”

This led me to a Ted Talk. I followed an impulse and came across Dr Alan Watkins. His Tedx talk, Being Brilliant Every Day brought some new insight to me as I wrote this piece.

We tend to think that we need to change behaviors in order to improve performance but it goes much deeper. How we think influences how we feel and the same in reverse.

Feelings are the awareness in our mind of emotions.

Raw emotion encapsulates physiology. Human physiology deals with just about everything that keeps us alive. Emotion is energy in motion. The energy of streams of data — our physiology. Dr. Watkins goes on to say there are 34,000 emotions . 34,000 physiologic energy streams that affect our body! Our job is to get control and awareness of them, but more importantly attune to the electrical signal of our heart as bringing our breath into a coherent state is key.

I had another phrase come during dream state — “Live your life in constant anticipation.”

I was woken by the sound of a cello string being plucked and I felt when each tone vibrated, it activated something in my heart.

A dream showcased me acting on impulse to swim across a channel and there I was met by two people. They were waiting for me and asked me to come and put a decapitated woman’s head back on and bring her back to life. I laid my hands on her, visualized all the parts and pieces mending and she opened her eyes and took her first breath. The message for me was, “You’ve been brain dead but now there is rebirth.”

Two songs came to me on different mornings:

“Am I the same girl?
(Yes I am, yes I am)
Am I the same girl?
(Yes I am, yes I am)

Am I the same girl?
(Yes I am, yes I am)
Am I the same girl?
(Yes I am, yes I am)”

When I looked up the song, the lyrics spoke to me deeply:

“Have you ever felt the need for something more
With every week comes scratching at your door
Have you ever stopped and wonder what it is you’re searching for
Push your luck too far with me
But if you push it any further
You won’t have any

Am I the same girl?
Am I the same girl?
(Yes I am, yes I am)”

Deep learning of letting go of our past, advice to forget about the memories that are holding us back, and recognizing a wake up call to forget about what everyone else is doing and only pursue what is important to me came in the “They Just Can’t Stop It (The Games People Play)” song sung by Bobby Smith, Pervis Jackson, Henry Fambrough and Barbara Ingram.

[Bobby Smith’s portion]:
“Can’t get no rest
Don’t know how I work all day
When will I learn?
Memories get in the way
I walk around
I can’t hear a sound, folks talkin’ loud, but I
Don’t see at all
I gotta get away, gotta get away, I don’t”

When we can connect to somewhere beyond what the news tells us, or what the local paper or radio morning show says, and go someplace deep within, I believe we connect to everywhere else. While others meditate, I dream, then journal.

The connective force of the universe is powerful, although it can feel elusive when we don’t expect and we don’t recognize the clues sent our way. My trick is to allow and enjoy the ride.

When we allow ideas, and learning to illuminate our path, when we connect with these ideas, and act on the impulses from this combination of learning and open-mindedness — there is magic.

We need to understand our thought process. We need to ask the right questions. We need to act on our hopes and dreams.

Do you feel having a life more in alignment with what you want is impossible? Do you ignore the signs because of your fear of failure? Do you believe the life you dream is possible?

If you are like the thief in The Alchemist who doesn’t act on his dream of a treasure found beneath a sycamore tree, growing in a church in Spain, then you will have lost your opportunity to find your treasure. Are you willing to look foolish, to move past disbelief, if there is even a small chance you can find your “treasure?”

The Alchemist tells Santiago:

“No matter what he does, every person on earth plays a central role in the history of the world. And normally he doesn’t know it.”

Are you playing in your role or sitting in the audience? Dreams are important and we need to do whatever we have to in order to fulfill them. They are our calling; our destiny. Others need us to fulfill our destiny.

When I journal each evening, I ask a question of the universe. Then I wait with an open mind and hope that when I allow answers to come to me, I won’t brush them away as a passing fancy.

There have been moments that have brought me to tears in the deep knowing place of my soul.

Santiago in the The Alchemist listens to his heart talk to him. “As he was about to climb yet another dune, his heart whispered, “Be aware of the place where you are brought to tears. That’s where I am, and that’s where your treasure is.” Think about a time where you were brought to tears. It may have been a proposal, the first look at your child’s face, the loss of someone dear, or he time you accomplished something you thought you never would.

When Santiago’s heart tells him to “dig where his tears fall,” the author is reminding his readers that they too, should listen to their hearts. It is not just the thoughts that are important — it is the emotions that lead us to our path of hopes and dreams.

Hundreds of years ago, it would have been normal to be in tune with our environment. The animals, weather, seasons, sun and sky all held important clues. We would have used that information to inform our decisions.

Next to the Chieftain, the Medicine Man would have held the most sway over the tribe. The Medicine Man was a combination of doctor, therapist, and priest.

The Shaman, was different. S/he was the one that walked in dreams. Their belief was that the earth is alive, that plants, animals and stones talk; that all things have a spirit, and we can journey to other worlds in our dreams and visions. They knew without a doubt we are all connected. The role of the Shaman was a vital one. They talked to spirits and animals and saw visions of the future.

Dreams are the way we communicate with our loved ones that have passed. Dreams give us answers to our important questions. Sigmund Freud believed dreams were connections to our unconscious thoughts, feelings and desires.

Our society has changed but not so much that we cannot access our dreams. Tonight, consider asking a question of the universe. Put a notebook by your bed. Capture the thoughts, images, snippets that come to you.

Perhaps you too will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.
